Fire-resistant glass can be effectively incorporated into comprehensive fire protection strategies. ARA Fire work closely with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that our fire-resistant glass solutions are seamlessly integrated into your building’s design, providing optimal protection without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

Our fire-resistant glass products can be used in a wide range of applications, including doors, partitions, facades, and windows, offering versatile solutions to meet the unique fire protection needs of your building. Key materials used in the production of fire-resistant glass include:

  • Laminated glass: made by sandwiching a transparent, fire-rated intumescent interlayer between two or more layers of glass. In the event of a fire, the intumescent layer expands and turns into a rigid, opaque, and insulating barrier, effectively preventing the spread of flames and smoke while reducing the transmission of radiant heat.
  • Wired glass: incorporates a mesh of metal wire embedded within the glass panel. The wire mesh helps to hold the glass together when exposed to high temperatures, providing an added level of fire resistance. Although wired glass is less transparent and less effective at preventing heat transfer than laminated glass, it is an economical option for specific applications.
  • Tempered glass: produced by subjecting standard glass to a controlled heating and cooling process, which strengthens the glass and enhances its heat resistance. While tempered glass can provide some level of fire resistance, it is generally used in combination with other materials or treatments for enhanced performance in fire-resistant applications.
  • Ceramic glass: made from a unique blend of silica and other materials, which gives it exceptional heat resistance and optical clarity. This type of glass can withstand extreme temperatures without losing its structural integrity, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring high levels of fire protection.
  • Insulated glass units (IGUs): are composed of multiple layers of glass separated by air or gas-filled cavities, which help to reduce heat transfer during a fire. These units can be customised with various types of fire-resistant glass, such as laminated or ceramic glass, to achieve the desired level of fire protection and thermal insulation.
