Commercial kitchens face daily potential cooking-related fire hazards. Fitting your commercial kitchen with a suitable fire suppression system is an essential component of any commercial kitchen’s fire safety plan and will prevent loss of productivity, property and, in extreme cases, lives.

Kitchen fire suppression systems are specialised fire protection systems widely used in commercial kitchens. These systems are specifically designed to extinguish fires that can originate within commercial cooking equipment such as fryers, grills, and ovens, commonly found in restaurants, fast-food chains, schools and universities, hospitals, convention centres, correctional facilities, and anywhere they’re cooking on a commercial scale.

A typical kitchen fire suppression system consists of several key components, including a control panel, a detection system, a suppression agent storage container or containers, and a network of pipes and nozzles to distribute the suppression agent.

When sensors detect a fire, a signal is sent to the control panel, which triggers the release of the suppression agent. The suppression agent then flows through the network of pipes and out of strategically positioned nozzles that cover the cooking equipment.

The suppression agent is usually a wet chemical solution specifically designed to extinguish fires involving cooking oils and fats that can quickly ignite and consume a commercial kitchen. The suppression agent also cools the surface areas of the equipment to prevent the fire from reigniting.

To ensure these systems function correctly, ARA Fire also provides regular inspections and maintenance. This includes checking the control panel, detection sensors, and suppression agent storage containers, as well as testing the system as a whole to ensure proper functionality.

Overall, a kitchen fire suppression system is an essential component of any commercial kitchen’s fire protection plan, providing reliable and effective protection against potential cooking-related fire hazards.

ANSUL® Kitchen Fire Suppression System

ANSUL® is a trusted brand across the world for its capability to protect kitchens from fires.

One of its flagship products, the R-102 Kitchen Fire Suppression System, provides a flexible design with ANSULEX Low pH Liquid Agent that quickly extinguishes flames and cools hot surfaces.

The R-102 system is specifically designed to protect areas associated with ventilating equipment, including hoods, ducts, plenums, and filters, as well as auxiliary grease extraction equipment and various types of cooking equipment such as fryers, griddles, rangetops, broilers, char-broilers, and woks.

The R-102 system is ideal for use in fast-food chains, retail food courts, convention centres, catering facilities, hotels and casinos, stadiums, schools and universities, hospitals, and all other commercial kitchens.

The R-102 system is offered in two designs; Appliance-Specific and Overlapping.

The Appliance-Specific design targets specific areas of each appliance, while the Overlapping design ensures maximum fire protection by overlapping nozzle placements. This feature allows appliances to be rearranged without the need to adjust nozzle placements, offering a more flexibile kitchen design and redesign.
